    Timetable Alterations

    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. 

    Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Amended late night service between Newport and Hereford on Sunday 15 July

The 23:30 Crewe to Chester train service will be replaced by a bus service.

Tuesday to Friday:

The 04:22 Chester to Birmingham New Street service starts at Crewe. An earlier bus will depart from Chester at 03:50 for Crewe.

The 22:35 Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury service will be diverted, not calling at Wilmslow or Crewe. Customers travelling to these stations should use a replacement bus service from Stockport to Crewe, calling at Wilmslow.

All weekend, buses will replace trains between Crewe and Chester. Please allow for an extended journey time.

From 22:05, trains between Shrewsbury and Chester via Crewe will be amended with some trains diverting via Wrexham. Buses will be provided between Shrewsbury and Crewe for onwards connections to Chester.

Virgin Trains

Trains will operate between Crewe and Holyhead and are diverted between Crewe and Chester, extending journey times by up to 50 minutes. London Euston is also closed this weekend. Customers are to use alternative services between Crewe and London. More details can be found here.

Tracks are the rails on which the trains run and include the points that allow the trains to switch tracks. There are over 20,000 miles of track on the railway network. Just like the roads and motorways need resurfacing the rails and points require renewal and regular maintenance to ensure they meet the stringent safety standards on the railway. This means that trains can operate safely and reliably.

  • The 23:00 Chester to Shrewsbury will depart at 23:22, and is diverted via Wrexham.

Customers for stations between Shrewsbury and Crewe should use the replacement bus service between Shrewsbury and Crewe, calling at all stations.

Additionally, the 22:40 Birmingham International to Holyhead service is diverted via Shrewsbury. A replacement bus will run between Wolverhampton, Stafford and Crewe.
