Travelling by train can save you time and money, whether it’s a school trip or an outing with friends. There are a few things to bear in mind when planning a trip, to ensure your itinerary goes safely and without a hitch. Here are some tips that will help you enjoy your journey with us.

    Before you travel

    • Plan ahead - where possible, please contact our customer services team on 0870 9000 767 to discuss your travel requirements. If any member of your group requires assistance, for example a ramp for a wheelchair, please let us know in advance by calling the above number or emailing customer.relations@arrivatrainswales.co.uk
    • Book in plenty of time to avoid disappointment, so that tickets can be posted to you. (We need a minimum 7 working days).
    • Please note that reservable capacity is limited, so book early to ensure that your group can be accommodated.
    • The maximum number for any group is 30.
    • Group travel for groups of 10 or fewer can be booked at a station. The booking office can sell group tickets, but they will need to verify that there is room for a group on the services you require.
    • You need to avoid peak time services. No group travel available between before 0900 and again between 1600 and 1800.
    • Prior to the day of travel, nominate a responsible person to lead your party.
    • Groups turning up for same day travel, may be able to travel, as long is there is space on the services required.
    • No group travel is available in or out of Cardiff when there is an event taking place at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff. Group travel may also be unavailable in or out of other stations where major events are taking place.
    • Groups can often benefit from a discounted fare. Our customer services team can advise on the cost of your fare including any discount.

    During your journey

    • At the station, arrive early to ensure you are on the correct platform.
    • Keep everyone back from the platform edge and ensure young children are properly supervised.
    • When boarding, if you have reservations, check that you are in the correct coach.
    • The group leader should make themselves known to the conductor and inform the conductor at which station you will be alighting.
    • Please ensure your group remains seated, keep aisles clear of bags and on certain trains, be aware of and keep hands clear of the automatic sliding internal doors.
    • Five to ten minutes prior to arrival at your destination, please ensure that your group is prepared and ready to leave the train with everyone being in possession of their personal belongings. Your conductor will be able to advise on which side of the train to alight.
    • On arrival at your destination, be ready to leave the train in an orderly and safe manner, taking care to mind the gap between the train and the platform. With young children, responsible adults should alight first to marshal children to a safe place to wait on the platform. Another responsible adult should leave the train last to ensure that no persons or possessions have been left behind.
