    Concessionary Travel Banner

    The Welsh Government Concessionary Travel scheme will run as detailed below for the next two years (ending March 2018). Holders of Concessionary Travel Passes issued by Welsh local authorities are able to travel free on the following routes. The schemes are:

    • Wrexham – Hawarden Bridge
    • Cambrian Coast (Machynlleth – Pwllheli)
    • Conwy Valley Line
    • Heart of Wales


    Cardiff & Valleys Line

    This scheme is available to all holders of a Concessionary Travel Pass issued by any Welsh Local Authority. Pass holders will be eligible for 1/3 off local fares on the Cardiff and Valleys network, on or after 09.30 Monday to Friday and any time Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. This period commences from 2nd January 2015 until further notice.

    Conwy Valley Line

    This scheme is available to all holders of a Concessionary Travel Pass issued by any Welsh Local Authority. Pass holders will be eligible for free travel on all ATW services between Conwy Valley line between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandudno and on all ATW services between Llandudno Junction and Llandudno.  This scheme is in operation on a 12 month rolling basis for the Conwy Valley line.

    Travel is permitted on the following stations:

    • Llandudno
    • Deganwy
    • Llandudno Junction
    • Glan Conwy
    • Tal-y-Cafn
    • Dalgarrog
    • North Llanrwst
    • Betws-y-Coed
    • Pont-y-Pant
    • Dolwyddelan
    • Roman Bridge
    • Blaenau Ffestiniog


    Wrexham to Hawarden Bridge

    This scheme is available to all holders of a Concessionary Travel Pass issued by any Welsh Local Authority. Free travel is permitted between the stations listed below.  This scheme is in operation on a 12 month rolling basis for Wrexham to Hawarden Bridge.

    Travel is permitted on the following stations:

    • Hawarden Bridge
    • Shotton
    • Hawarden
    • Buckley
    • Penyffordd
    • Hope
    • Caergwrie
    • Cefn-y-Bedd
    • Gwersyllt
    • Wrexham General
    • Wrexham Central 


    Cambrian Coast

    This scheme is available to all holders of a Concessionary Travel Pass issued by any Welsh Local Authority. Pass holders will be eligible for free travel on all ATW services between Pwllheli and Machynlleth. This period commences from 1st October 2017 until the 31st March 2018.

    Please note: During school terms there will be some restriction of travel on some trains.
    06.10 Pwllheli – Machynlleth between Barmouth and Tywyn
    07.34 Pwllheli – Machynlleth between Penrhynddeudraeth and Harlech.
    12.56 Machynlleth – Pwllheli between Harlech and Penrhynddeudraeth
    14.56 Machynlleth – Pwllheli between Tywyn and Barmouth

    Travel is permitted on the following stations:

    Heart of Wales Line

    This scheme is available to all holders of a Concessionary Travel Pass issued by any Welsh Local Authority. Pass holders will be eligible for free travel on all ATW services between the stations listed below. This period commences from 1st October 2017 until the 31st March 2018.  Special note: Concessionary Travel is not permitted solely between stations highlighted in red or solely between stations highlighted in purple. Travel is not permitted for journeys that take place entirely between Shrewsbury and Bucknell or between Llanelli and Swansea.

    Travel is permitted between the following stations, subject to the terms highlighted above:
