    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

21:09 Birmingham International to Chester service is diverted between Shrewsbury and Chester via Wrexham General. A bus will operate between Shrewsbury and Crewe for connecting passengers.

23:00 Chester to Shrewsbury will be diverted between Chester and Shrewsbury via Wrexham General. A bus will operate between Crewe and Shrewsbury.

The 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen service will be diverted, not calling at stations between Port Talbot Parkway and Carmarthen. A bus will run from Port Talbot Parkway to Carmarthen, calling at all stations.

The 21:09 Pembroke Dock to Swansea service will be replaced by a bus between Llanelli and Swansea.

The 21:17 Cardiff Central to Chester will be replaced by a bus between Crewe and Chester. Passengers travelling to Chester can also change at Shrewsbury for a train service.

The 21:42 Bridgend to Aberdare service will terminate at Cardiff Central. Passengers are advised to use the 22:46 Cardiff Central to Treherbert service to connect with a bus from Treherbert to Aberdare.

The 21:56 Barry Island to Merthyr Tydfil will be replaced by a bus between Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil.

The 22:45 Barry Island to Pontypridd will be replaced by a bus between Radyr and Pontypridd.

The 22:45 Swansea to Fishguard Harbour will not run. A bus will run from Swansea to Llanelli to connect with a train to Fishguard Harbour.

The 22:55 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service will terminate at Crewe. A bus will run from Crewe to Chester to connect with a train to Holyhead.

The 23:30 Crewe to Chester service will be replaced by a bus.

Tuesday to Friday

The 01:50 Fishguard Harbour to Swansea will be replaced by a bus between Llanelli and Swansea.

The 04:22 Chester to Birmingham New Street service will be replaced by a bus between Chester and Crewe.

The 04:55 Chester to Crewe service will not run. Passengers are advised to use alternative train services.

The 05:45 Swansea to Pembroke Dock will be replaced by a bus between Swansea and Llanelli.

The 06:03 Swansea to Crewe service will be replaced by a bus between Swansea and Llanelli.

Trains on the Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil lines will be diverted via the 'City' line and will not call at Cardiff Queen Street, Cathays and Llandaf. A replacement bus will operate between these stations to / from Cardiff Central or Radyr.

Treherbert line services will terminate at Cardiff Queen Street.

A reduced service will run between Cardiff Central and Radyr. Passengers can use local buses..

Buses will also replace trains between Cardiff Central and Barry Island / Penarth / Bridgend (via the Vale of Glamorgan Line)

Sunday

All Valley Line services will not run between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street.

Engineering work is taking place on some areas of the Valley Lines, closing some lines. Because of this, the following alterations will apply:

Trains to / from Aberdare / Treherbert / Merthyr Tydfil will be diverted and not call at Cardiff Queen Street or Cardiff Central. A replacement bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Radyr via Cardiff Queen Street, to allow passengers to connect with a train service.

Trains between Bridgend and Barry Island will call additionally at Cardiff Central.

Buses will replace trains between Rhymney and Cardiff Central until approximately 12:30; after which trains to / from Rhymney will be diverted via Cardiff Bay and not call at Cardiff Central.

There will be no services at Cardiff Bay until after 12:30. Passengers should use local buses between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Queen Street.

An hourly train service will run between Cardiff Central and Barry Island

Buses will replace trains between Penarth and Cardiff Central.

Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street will not run. Passengers should use alternative services by other operators from Manchester Piccadilly.

On Saturday, trains between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street will be replaced by buses between Manchester Victoria and Eccles.

On Sunday, buses will run between Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Piccadilly and Eccles.

TransPennine Express

Trains between Newcastle / York and Liverpool Lime Street will terminate at Manchester Victoria. Other services are available between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will start from Preston. Passengers should use alternative services between Manchester Victoria and Preston.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh will operate to a limited reduced frequency timetable and will either start from Manchester Victoria or Preston. The trains will not call at Wigan North Western, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. Passengers should use alternative services between Manchester, Wigan and Preston for intermediate stations.

Trains to and from Coryton will run between Coryton and Heath Low Level only. Passengers should change at Heath Low Level for a connecting train service.

Passengers travelling between Radyr and Cardiff may use local buses.

Sunday

High speed long distance services

High speed services will be completely revised throughout the weekend.

Trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will run hourly. They will be diverted between Reading and Bath Spa, and will not call at Didcot Parkway, Swindon or Chippenham. An hourly train service will run between Swindon, Chippenham, Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads. Buses will run between Reading and Swindon, and between Didcot Parkway and Swindon.

Trains between London Paddington and South Wales will run hourly. On Saturday, they will be diverted between Reading and Swindon, not calling at Didcot Parkway, and will make an extra stop at Chippenham On Sunday they will be diverted between Reading and Bristol Parkway, and will not call at Didcot Parkway and Swindon but call additionally at Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads. Journey times will be extended.

Extra trains will run between London Paddington, Maidenhead, Reading and Didcot Parkway.

Trains will be retimed and have amended calling patterns between London Paddington and Exeter St Davids / Plymouth / Penzance.

Most trains from London Paddington to Worcester / Great Malvern / Hereford via Oxford will be retimed.

On Sunday, services between London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa will run between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa only. Passengers are advised to use  alternative services. Buses replace some journeys.

Thames Valley services

Trains between London Paddington and Oxford will be retimed.

On Saturday trains to and from Greenford will operate an hourly frequency between Ealing Broadway and Greenford.

On Saturday no trains will call at Acton Main Line, you can use London Buses and London Underground to travel to and from this station.

As a consequence of the London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads / South Wales services being diverted, most services between Reading and Newbury / Bedwyn will be retimed or not call at all stations.

All weekend, trains will not call at Burnham and Taplow (Taplow is closed as normal on Sunday from 02:00. Road transport will operate between Slough and Burnham / Taplow. 

On Sunday until approximately 07:00, London Paddington to Twyford trains will be replaced by buses between London Paddington / Hayes & Harlington and Twyford.

21:15 Carmarthen to Hereford service starts from Swansea and terminates at Newport. A bus will depart Swansea at 20:25 to connect with a train at Swansea. The train will depart at 22:15 for Newport and will connect with a bus leaving Newport at 23:45 for Hereford.

Arriva Trains Wales services are diverted and will run direct between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester (via Northwich). Buses will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester via Newton-le-Willows calling at all stations that are normally served.

Northern trains between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness are diverted to run between Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

Trains between Manchester Airport / Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Eccles and Liverpool Lime Street only. Buses will run between Eccles and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Piccadilly.

Trains between Hazel Grove / Chester and Southport are diverted to run between Hazel Grove / Chester and Manchester Oxford Road, and then between Manchester Victoria and Southport.

TransPennine Express trains between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Newcastle and Manchester Victoria only. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central.

Long distance trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central will operate between Preston and Glasgow Central only. Customers for stations between Manchester and Preston should use alternative services.

Long distance trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Edinburgh will be amended to start from Manchester Victoria. These services will not call at Wigan North Western, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. The services will however, call additionally at Bolton and Chorley. Alternative services by other operators are available for customers travelling between Manchester, Wigan and Preston.

The 20:12 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough service will start from Manchester Victoria.

Early on Monday 12 December, the 00:45 Manchester Airport to York and the 04:22 Manchester Airport to Newcastle services will start from Manchester Victoria. Buses will run from Manchester Airport and Manchester Victoria to connect with these trains.

Also early on Monday 12 December, the 01:38 and 02:52 York to Manchester Airport services will terminate instead at Manchester Victoria. Buses will run from Manchester Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.
