• Planned Service Alterations

    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Amended Arriva Trains Wales services from Monday 18 to Friday 22 August 2014

Engineering work is taking place over some parts of the Arriva Trains Wales network with the following trains amended:  

Monday to Thursday 

  • 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen will be diverted between Cardiff Central and Bridgend, a bus will run from Cardiff Central to Bridgend calling at stations normally served by the train and connect with the train at Bridgend and the 19:34 Cardiff Central to Holyhead, 22:04 Chester to Holyhead, 22:52 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead, buses replace trains between Llandudno Junction and Holyhead
  • 19:34 Cardiff Central to Holyhead will be diverted via Crewe. Passengers for stations to Chester should travel on the 21:50 Shrewsbury to Wrexham General service and connect into the replacement bus from Wrexham General to Chester
  • 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly will be diverted via Crewe. Passengers for stations between Shrewsbury and Chester should travel on the additional 22:35 Shrewsbury to Wrexham General service and connect into the replacement bus from Wrexham General calling at Chester, Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn East, Warrington Bank Quay, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Piccadilly. The bus will call to set down only   
  • An additional train will run at 21:50 from Shrewsbury to Wrexham General. Passengers should connect into the replacement bus calling at Chester only 
  • 22:28 Chester to Wolverhampton starts forward from Wrexham General at 23:00. Passengers should travel on the replacement bus from Chester to Wrexham General
  • An additional train will run from Shrewsbury to Wrexham General at 22:35. Passengers should connect into the 23:25 replacement bus from Wrexham General calling at Chester, Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn East, Warrington Bank Quay, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Piccadilly. The bus will call to set down only
  • 22:23 Crewe to Chester will not run
  • An additional train will run at 23:22 from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly     
  • 23:37 Shrewsbury to Chester will be diverted via Crewe. Passengers should travel on the 23:40 replacement bus from Shrewsbury calling at Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon, Wrexham General and Chester    

Tuesday to Friday

  • 00:22 Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury is retimed to depart slightly later than normal
  • 04:24 Holyhead to Cardiff Central starts from Llandudno Junction, passengers from Holyhead and Bangor should travel on the 04:48 Virgin Trains service from Holyhead and change at Chester for connection to Cardiff Central
  • 05:45 Chester to Wrexham General will not run

London Midland

On Saturday buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

21:34 (Saturday) Liverpool Lime Street to Birmingham New Street, bus replaces train between Crewe and Birmingham New Street. 

21:47 (Saturday) Shrewsbury to Birmingham New Street, bus replaces train between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street. 

22:38 (Saturday) Birmingham New Street to Crewe and 23:18 Birmingham New Street to Hednesford, bus replaces train throughout.

23:08 (Saturday) Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury will not run, an additional train will run from Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury.

09:48 (Sunday) Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham New Street, bus replaces train between Rugeley Trent Valley and Walsall connecting with a train for Birmingham New Street.

22:40 (Sunday) Birmingham New Street to Rugeley Trent Valley, passengers should travel on the 22:17 to Walsall for connecting bus to Rugeley Trent Valley 

On Sunday and Monday buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton and also between Wolverhampton and Crewe. 

On Monday buses replace trains between Wolverhampton and Telford Central. 

On Monday a reduced service will run between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.

Virgin Trains

On Sunday and Monday buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

22:45 Barry Island to Pontypridd will be diverted via City line, a bus will run from Cardiff Central to Radyr via Llandaf.

22:49 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach, bus replaces train between Cardiff Central and Ystrad Mynach.

19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen (Monday to Thursday) will be diverted and not call at stations between Cardiff Central and Bridgend. A replacement bus will run calling at stations between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Pencoed.

The following trains will be replaced by a bus between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester:

  • 21:04 (Monday to Thursday) Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly (train is diverted to terminate at Chester)
  • 23:14 (Monday to Thursday) Manchester Piccadilly to Chester will be diverted Stockport and Northwich. Replacement bus will call at all booked stations between Manchester and Chester

Engineering work is taking place on the Valley Lines with various line closures.

An amended service will run with services from Rhymney, Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and Treherbert terminating at Cardiff Central.

On Saturday there will be no replacement bus services operating from Cardiff Central to Radyr calling all stations via the City Line. Rail tickets will be accepted on local Cardiff Bus services. Buses will run from Cardiff Central to Penarth and Barry Island on a 30 minutes frequency on each route.

On Sunday buses will run from Cardiff Central calling all stations to Radyr via the City Line, Penarth and Barry Island on a 30 minutes frequency on each route.

On Saturday & Sunday an hourly bus service will run from Cardiff Central to Bridgend via the Vale of Glamorgan. The Coryton service will not run and passengers should use the local bus services.

Amended Arriva Trains Wales services from Monday 3 to Friday 7 November 2014

Overnight engineering work is taking place over some parts of the Arriva Trains Wales network with the following trains being amended:

Monday to Thursday

19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen will be diverted and not call at Swansea, a connecting bus will run between Neath and Carmarthen via Swansea.

22:15 Maesteg to Cheltenham Spa will be replaced by a bus between Newport and Cheltenham Spa.

22:18 Penarth to Rhymney will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Rhymney.

22:49 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Ystrad Mynach.

23:00 Cheltenham Spa to Cardiff Central is cancelled with no alternative transport available.

Tuesday to Friday 

01:50 Fishguard Harbour to Swansea will be replaced by a bus between Llanelli and Swansea.

04:31 Swansea to Shrewsbury will be replaced by a bus between Swansea and Llanelli. The replacement bus will depart from Swansea at 04:17.

Amended Arriva Trains Wales services from Monday 10 to Friday 14 November 2014

Engineering work is taking place over some parts of the Arriva Trains Wales network. The following trains are amended:

Monday and Tuesday

The 19:34 Cardiff Central to Holyhead and 22:55 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead services will be retimed to run later than normal. As there is no guaranteed connection, passengers intending to travel on the 02:40 Irish Ferry service to Dublin are advised to travel earlier.  

Monday to Thursday

The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service is replaced by a bus between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly.

The 23:14 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service is diverted. A replacement bus will operate from Manchester Piccadilly to Chester calling at all booked stations.

The 23:15 Cardiff Central to Carmarthen service will be diverted via the Vale of Glamorgan. Passengers for stations between Cardiff and Bridgend should travel on the replacement buses, calling at intermediate stations. Passengers for stations between Bridgend and Carmarthen should connect into the Carmarthen train service at Bridgend.

Tuesday to Friday

The 00:25 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will not run. A replacement bus will run throughout.
