• Planned Service Alterations

    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

21:55 Cardiff Central to Crewe, bus replaces train between Shrewsbury and Crewe.

22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester, bus replaces train between Newport and Gloucester.

Monday to Friday

21:17 Cardiff Central to Chester, bus replaces train between Crewe and Chester.

21:54 Aberdare to  Penarth, bus replaces train between Cardiff Central to Penarth.

22:42 (departs 22:55) Bridgend to Cardiff Central is diverted via  Pontyclun. A bus will run  between Bridgend and Cardiff Central calling at stations normally served by the train.

22:55 Birmingham International to Holyhead will terminate at Crewe, passengers from Crewe should travel on earlier bus between Crewe and Chester and then connect into the additional 00:44 Chester to Holyhead.

23:14 Radyr to Barry Island, bus replaces train between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central, bus replaces train throughout.

23:27 Crewe to Chester, bus replaces train throughout.

Tuesday to Friday

04:22 Chester to Birmingham New Street, earlier bus replaces train between Chester and Crewe.

04:49 Crewe to Milford Haven will start from Shrewsbury, a bus will run from Crewe to Shrewsbury (not connecting with the train).

04:55 Chester to Crewe will not run, passengers should travel on the 04:38 Llandudno Junction to Crewe.

05:16 Barry Island to Caerphilly starts at Cardiff Central.

Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Pencoed. Trains will be diverted via the Vale of Glamorgan line with extended journey times.

Most First Great Western services from South Wales to London Paddington will depart stations between Swansea and Bridgend approximately 35 minutes earlier than normal.

21:09 (Monday to Thursday) Pembroke Dock to Swansea, bus replaces train between Llanelli and Swansea.

23:45 (Monday to Thursday) Swansea to Fishguard Harbour, bus replaces train between Swansea and Llanelli.

01:50 (Tuesday to Friday) Fishguard Harbour to Swansea, bus replaces train between Llanelli and Swansea.

05:03 (Tuesday to Friday) Carmarthen to Manchester Piccadilly will start at 05:00.

05:45 (Tuesday to Friday) Swansea to Pembroke Dock, bus replaces train between Swansea and Llanelli.

06:03 (Tuesday to Friday) Swansea to Crewe, bus replaces train between Swansea and Llanelli.

No trains will run between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Pencoed. Trains will divert via the Vale of Glamorgan Line with journey times extended by approximately 35 minutes. Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Pencoed.

Most First Great Western trains from Carmarthen, Swansea and Bridgend will depart earlier than the normal timetable. 

Until approximately 09:45,  buses will replace trains between Carmarthen / Swansea and Cardiff Central.

The 15:26 and 16:55 Carmarthen and London Paddington will start from Swansea at 15:54 and 17:24 respectively.

The 16:51 and 18:51 Swansea to London Paddington will start from Carmarthen at 15:26 and 17:32 respectively.

21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly is diverted via Crewe and terminates Chester.

21:50 Shrewsbury to Wrexham General (runs additional), a connecting bus will run from Chester to Wrexham General.

23:22 Chester to Manchester Piccadilly (runs additional).

22:23 Crewe to Chester departs Crewe at 22:40.

22:28 Chester to Wolverhampton, bus replaces train between Chester and Wrexham General.

22:35 Shrewsbury to Wrexham General (runs additional) connects into 23:25 bus service from Wrexham General calling Chester 23:55 and calls (set down only) at Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn East, Warrington Bank Quay, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Manchester Piccadilly.

22:43 Chester to Shrewsbury (runs additional).

The 22:20 Penarth to Rhymney service terminates at Cardiff Central. Passengers for stations to Rhymney should travel on a replacement bus service. The 22:50 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach terminates at Cardiff Central. Passengers for stations to Ystrad Mynach should travel on a replacement bus service.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service starts at Cardiff Central. Passengers travelling from Radyr to Barry Island should travel on a replacement bus service from Radyr calling all stations. Bus stops between Cardiff Central and Barry Island are "set down "only.

The 22:45 Barry Island to Pontypridd service is diverted via the "City Line". A replacement bus service will operate between Cardiff Central and Pontypridd. Bus stops at Radyr, Taffs Well and Treforest are "set down "only.

From 23:00 there will be no train services between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bay.

Tuesday to Friday

00:22 Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury is  re-timed to start at 00:38.

Saturday, Sunday & Monday

CrossCountry

An hourly service will operate to / from Manchester Piccadilly. Buses are replacing trains between Wolverhampton / Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent, journey times will be extended by up to 30 minutes.

Virgin Trains

From 12:00 on Saturday two services an hour will operate between London Euston and Birmingham New Street / Wolverhampton / Manchester Piccadilly. Wolverhampton services will not call at Sandwell & Dudley

On Sunday, services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester will be diverted via Stockport and Northwich. Replacement buses will operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester calling at affected stations and on Monday services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester will be replaced by buses between Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Bank Quay.

East Midlands Trains 

Services between Norwich / Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street will start / terminate at Manchester Piccadilly. Replacement buses will operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Central. Passengers should use alternative services between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street.

First TransPennine Express

Services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow / Edinburgh / Barrow-in-Furness/Windermere will be diverted to start / terminate at Manchester Victoria with connecting buses operating between Manchester Airport and Manchester Victoria.

Services between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North will operate between Preston and Blackpool North only.

Services between Scarborough / York and Liverpool Lime Street will start / terminate at Manchester Oxford Road and will not call at Birchwood, Warrington Central, Liverpool South Parkway or Liverpool Lime Street. Replacement buses will run between Warrington Central and Manchester Piccadilly via Birchwood.

Services between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street (wich operate via Manchester Victoria) will call additionally at Newton-le-Willows. Replacement buses will operate between Warrington Central and Newton-le-Willows to connect with these services.

On Sunday, an additional hourly shuttle service will operate between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street via Widnes and Liverpool South Parkway. 

On Monday, additional services will run from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria (calling at Newton-le-Willows) departing at 20:12, 21:12 and 22:12 and from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime Street (calling at Newton-le-Willows) departing at 21:46 and 22:47. 

Northern Rail

Services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street will be replaced by buses between Manchester Oxford Road and Urmston.

On Sunday, services between Southport and Hazel Grove / Chester will run between Southport and Manchester Victoria and between Manchester Oxford Road and Hazel Grove / Chester. On Monday, services between Southport and Manchester Airport will be diverted to start / terminate at Manchester Victoria and services between Preston and Hazel Grove will start / terminate at Manchester Oxford Road.

Also on Sunday, services between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street will be diverted to start / terminate at Manchester Victoria and on Monday, services between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street will not run. On Monday, services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street will run as booked.

On Monday, the booked services between Manchester Victoria and Clitheroe will not run. Services which normally run between Manchester Victoria and Blackburn (via Todmorden) will be extended to start / terminate at Clitheroe. Services between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North will only run between Preston and Blackpool North with replacement buses running between Manchester and Preston. Services between Bolton and Kirkby will start / terminate at Wigan Wallgate with replacement buses running between Manchester and Bolton, Wigan Wallgate.

The 19:34 Cardiff Central to Holyhead service will be diverted via Crewe, not calling at Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon or Wrexham General. An additional service will run between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General at 21:50, this train will connect with a bus service to Chester.

The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service will terminate at Chester. This service will also be diverted via Crewe, not calling at Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon or Wrexham General. An additional train will run between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General at 22:35 to connect with a bus service between Wrexham General and Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Chester and then to set down only at Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn East, Warrington Bank Quay, Earlestown and Newton-le-Willows. An additional train will run between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly at 23:22.

The 22:23 Crewe to Chester service will be retimed to leave Crewe at 22:40.

The 22:28 Chester to Wolverhampton service will be replaced by a bus between Chester and Wrexham General.

The 23:30 Crewe to Chester service will not run.

The 23:37 Shrewsbury to Chester service will be diverted via Crewe not calling at Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon and Wrexham General. A bus will run between Shrewsbury and Chester, calling at these stations.

An additional service will run between Chester and Shrewsbury at 22:43.

Tuesday to Friday

The 00:22 Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury service will be retimed to leave Wolverhampton at 00:38.

Friday

The 06:18 Llandridod and Crewe service will be replaced by a bus between Llandrindod and Knighton.

The 21:34 and 23:05 Cardiff Central to Ebbw Vale  Town and the 22:37 Ebbw Vale Town to Cardiff Central, buses replace trains throughout.

The 21:38 Merthyr Tydfil to Bridgend service is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Bridgend.

The 21:51 Aberdare to Penarth service is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Penarth. 

The 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester service is replaced by a bus between Newport and Gloucester. 

The 22:28 Chester to Wolverhampton service starts forward from Shrewsbury. A replacement bus will run from Chester to Wolverhampton, calling at all booked stations as set down only.   

The 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central service is diverted via Pontyclun. A replacement bus will run between Bridgend and Cardiff Central, calling at the affected stations.

The 22:52 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service is replaced by a bus between Chester and Holyhead. There is no connection to ferry services from this train.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

The 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central service will not run and is replaced by a bus.

The 23:37 Shrewsbury to Chester service will not run and is replaced by a bus. 

Tuesday to Friday

The 04:38 Llandudno Junction to Crewe service starts forward from Rhyl. No alternative transport will be provided from Llandudno Junction to Rhyl.

The 05:15 Barry Island to Caerphilly service starts forward from Cardiff Central. Passengers are advised that there will be no alternative transport provided from Caerphilly to Cardiff Central.

Trains between Southport and Manchester Airport are diverted and will run between Southport and Manchester Victoria. Passengers to / from Manchester Airport should use alternative trains between Salford Crescent and Manchester Airport.

Trains between Blackpool North and Hazel Grove will run between Blackpool North and Manchester Victoria and between Manchester Oxford Road and Hazel Grove. Passengers should use alternative trains between Salford Crescent and Manchester Oxford Road.

On Saturday, trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria are replaced by buses between Earlstown and Manchester Victoria.

On Saturday, trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria are replaced by buses between Earlstown and Manchester Victoria.

On Sunday trains will run between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western with connecting buses between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Piccadilly. Passengers should use other trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

08:10 (Sunday) Shrewsbury to Birmingham International will start at Wellington, a bus will run from Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton.

Amended Arriva Trains Wales services from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October

Engineering work is taking place over some parts of the Arriva Trains Wales network with the following trains amended:

Monday to Thursday

The 21:34 and 23:05 Cardiff Central to Ebbw Vale Town and the 22:37 Ebbw Vale Town to Cardiff Central services will not run and replaced by buses.

The 21:51 Aberdare to Penarth service is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Penarth.

The 21:55 Cardiff Central to Crewe service is replaced by a bus between Shrewsbury and Crewe. 

The 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester service is replaced by a bus between Newport and Gloucester.

The 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central service is diverted via Pontyclun. A bus will run from Bridgend to Cardiff Central, calling at the affected stations.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

The 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central service will not run and is replaced by a bus.

Tuesday to Friday

The 04:39 Crewe to Milford Haven service starts forward from Chester and is diverted via Wrexham. A replacement minibus will run from Crewe to Shrewsbury, calling at affected stations.  

The 05:16 Barry Island to Caerphilly services starts forward from Cardiff Central. Passengers are advised that there will be no alternative transport between Barry Island and Caerphilly.
