    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. 


    Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    For details on Planned Service Alterations and changes to timetables on other train operators can be found by contacting National Rail Enquiries on 03457 484950 or by visiting www.nationalrail.co.uk.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Customer Advice:


The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service will terminate at Chester. A replacement bus will run between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly.

The 23:14 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service starts later at 23:34 and is diverted and unable to call at stations between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester. A replacement bus will be in operation, calling at all stations.

The 00:32 Manchester to Piccadilly to Chester service will not run. A replacement bus will be in operation.

The 22:52 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service terminates at Chester. A replacement bus will run from Chester to Holyhead.

Tuesday - Friday

The 04:38 Llandudno to Crewe service will start from Chester at 05:37. Customers should travel on the 05:15 train from Llandudno Junction. There will be no bus from Llandudno and Llandudno Junction.

The 05:54 Llandudno to Llandudno Junction will be run later than normal at 06:04.

The 06:13 Llandudno Junction to Llandudno will start later than normal at 06:17.

Monday - Thursday

The 21:54 Aberdare to Penarth will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff and Penarth.

The 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus diverted via an alternative route. A bus will run between Bridgend and Cardiff Central, calling at all stations via Barry.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

The 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus.

The 21:55 Cardiff Central to Crewe will be diverted via Chester and Wrexham. A replacement bus will run between Shrewsbury and Crewe.

The 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester services will be replaced by a bus between Newport and Gloucester. Customers for Cheltenham Spa should travel on the first available service to Cheltenham Spa.

The 23:00 Cheltenham Spa to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus between Gloucester and Newport. An additional service will operate between Newport and Cardiff Central.

Tuesday - Friday

The 05:16 Barry Island to Caerphilly will be replaced by a bus between Barry Island and Cardiff Central. The bus will depart at 05:00.

Advice for Arriva Trains Wales customers:

Trains will be diverted between Bridgend and Cardiff Central, via Llantwit Major. A replacement bus will run between Bridgend and Cardiff Central, via Llanharan.

For the 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester service, the replacement bus will continue on to Gloucester, setting down only.

Advice for Great Western Railway customers:

Services between Swansea and London Paddington will be diverted between Bridgend and Cardiff Central, via Llantwit Major. This will extend journey times by approximately 25 minutes.

From 22:00 to 05:00 each night, Network rail is carry out engineering work at various locations resulting the the closure of some lines.

Monday to Thursday

The 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen service will be diverted and will not call at stations between Port Talbot Parkway and Carmarthen.  A replacement bus will run between Neath and Carmarthen.

The 22:20 Penarth to Rhymney is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Rhymney.

The 22:50 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Ystrad Mynach.

Tuesday to Friday

The 01:50 Fishguard Harbour to Swansea is replaced by a bus between Llanelli to Swansea.

Amended early morning services to, from and through Cardiff Central on Sunday 13 August

Engineering work is taking place between Carmarthen and Swansea, and between Bridgend and Swansea,  until 08:50 closing the lines. The following trains will be amended:

01:50 (Sunday) Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central service will be replaced by a bus between Carmarthen and Cardiff Central.

07:10 Cardiff Central to Pembroke Dock service starts from Swansea at 08:15. Passengers from Cardiff should travel on the earlier 06:25 replacement bus service to connect with the train.

08:10 Swansea to London Paddington service will start from Cardiff Central. Buses will run between Swansea and Cardiff Central to connect with this train.

The 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen service will be diverted via Barry, not calling at stations between Cardiff Central and Bridgend. A bus will run from Cardiff Central to Bridgend, calling at Pontyclun, Llanharan and Pencoed.
