  • How much of these rail fares have been reinvested?

Since the start of the franchise in 2003, we’ve been able to reinvest around £30 million and release funding for numerous projects which have helped to improve trains and stations for our passengers. Much of this is supported through fares. In addition to our own investment, money paid to Network Rail, from us, through our track access and station access charges has enabled them to carry out a number of large improvement projects. As examples, we’ve contributed to improvement projects, such as the renovation of Swansea Railway Station and a complete refurbishment of our 158 fleet in partnership with Welsh Government, Department for Transport, Network Rail and others. As we speak, we’re installing new Ticket Vending Machines all over our network to improve ticket buying facilities for passengers; this is an Arriva Trains Wales investment of around £1million.
