    Timetable Alterations

    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. 

    Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    For details on Planned Service Alterations and changes to timetables on other train operators can be found by contacting National Rail Enquiries on 03457 484950 or by visiting www.nationalrail.co.uk.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Amended late night Arriva Trains Wales services on Sunday 20 August

The 20:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central service terminates at Hereford, a replacement bus service will operate between Hereford and Cardiff Central.

Network Rail are carrying out overnight engineering work in the Chester area, closing some lines.

The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service will terminates at Chester, a replacement bus service will run from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly.

The 2:255 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead is retimed to depart Chester at 00:49.

The 23:14 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester will run as booked to Warrington Bank Quay and will then be diverted via Crewe. A replacement bus service will run from Warrington Bank Quay to Chester.

The 00:25 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will not run, a replacement bus service will replace this service.

The 03:36 Chester to Manchester Airport will start earlier than normal at 03:14.

Monday to Thursday

From 22:00 to 05:00 each night, buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Penarth / Barry Island.

The 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central is diverted via Pontyclun. A bus will run between Bridgend to Cardiff Central calling at all station via Rhoose.

The 21:55 Cardiff Central to Crewe is diverted between Shrewsbury and Crewe via Wrexham General and will terminate at Chester. A replacement bus will run between Shrewsbury and Crewe calling at all stations via Nantwich.

Tuesday to Friday

The 04:50 Crewe to Milford Haven will start from Chester is diverted via Wrexham General. A connecting bus service will run between Crewe and Shrewsbury to connect with the train.

Trains between Manchester Victoria and Preston / Blackpool North will run between Bolton and Preston / Blackpool North. Buses will run between Manchester Victoria and Bolton.

Trains between Southport / Wigan Wallgate and Chester / Hazel Grove will run between Southport / Wigan Wallgate  and between Manchester Oxford Road and Stockport / Chester.

TransPennine Express

Saturday and Sunday

Trains between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will run between Preston and Glasgow Central only. Customers for stations between Manchester and Preston should use alternative services.

A reduced service will run between Manchester Victoria and Edinburgh, not calling at Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road and Wigan North Western.

Customers for stations to / from Wigan North Western should use services provided by other operators.

The 21:56 Barry Island to Merthyr Tydfil service will terminate at Pontypridd. A replacement bus will run from Pontypridd to Merthyr Tydfil.

The 22:45 Barry Island to Pontypridd will be replaced by a bus between Radyr and Pontypridd.

The 22:55 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service will terminate at Crewe. A bus service will run from Crewe to Chester to connect with a train from Chester to Holyhead.

The 23:30 Crewe to Chester service will be replaced by a bus.

Tuesday to Friday

The 04:22 Chester to Birmingham New Street service will be replaced by a bus between Chester and Crewe.

The 04:55 Chester to Crewe service will not run. Customers are advised to travel on the 04:38 Llandudno Junction to Crewe service which will leave Chester at 05:37.

The 22:35 Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury is diverted and will run direct between Manchester Piccadilly and Shrewsbury. A bus will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe calling at all stations. There is no forward connection off the bus between Crewe and Shrewsbury.

The 22:20 Penarth to Rhymney service and the 22:50 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach service will terminate at Cardiff Central and be replaced by a bus for the remainder of the service.

Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Queen Street.

Services between Salford Crescent and Manchester Victoria via Salford Central are unaffected by this engineering work and will continue to run as normal.

On Saturday, services will be replaced by buses between Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Piccadilly.

Northern

Blackpool North - Manchester Airport / Hazel Grove

Services will run between Blackpool North and Manchester Victoria and also between Manchester Oxford Road and Hazel Grove

Southport / Wigan  - Stockport / Chester

Services will run between Southport and Manchester Victoria and also between Manchester Oxford Road and Stockport / Chester.

Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Victoria

Buses will replace trains between Eccles and Manchester Victoria.

Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Airport.

Trains will not run.

TransPennine Express

Liverpool Lime Street - Newcastle

Services will be amended to run between Manchester Victoria and Newcastle only. Alternative train services are available between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.

On Saturday, the 06:16 York to Liverpool Lime Street service will terminate at Manchester Victoria and the 23:20 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Manchester Victoria.

On Sunday, the 09:12 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will start from Leeds and the 20:12 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough service will start from Manchester Victoria.

Glasgow Central - Manchester Airport

Services will run between Glasgow Central and Preston only. You will need to use alternative train services between Preston / Wigan and Manchester.

Edinburgh - Manchester Airport

Services will run between Edinburgh and Manchester Victoria, not calling at Wigan North Western. You will need to use alternative train services to / from Wigan.

From Saturday 23 September until Sunday 29 October, work will take place between Cardiff Central and Newport, closing various lines. An amended service will run between these stations.

Trains will be retimed and subject to platform changes. Some trains will be amended to start / terminate at Newport.

Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Newport on the following days:

  • Sunday 24 September
  • Until 13:00 on Sunday 1 October
  • Until 13:00 on Sunday 8 October
  • After 21:00 on Saturday 14 and all day on Sunday 15 October
  • Sunday 22 October

Some bus services will be extended to Pye Corner for customers travelling to / from Ebbw Vale Town.

On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains between Machynlleth and Pwllheli.

From Monday to Friday, buses will replace trains between Barmouth and Pwllheli.

Engineering work is taking place at various locations between Chester and Manchester / Holyhead, closing some lines. The following services will be amended:

Monday to Thursday

The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service will be replaced by a bus between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly.

The 22:52 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead service will be replaced by a bus between Chester and Holyhead.

The 23:14 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester will run as booked to Warrington Bank Quay then be diverted via Crewe. A connecting bus service will run from Warrington Bank Quay to Chester, calling at all stations normally served by the train.

Tuesday to Friday

The 00:25 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will be replaced by a bus.

The 04:38 Llandudno to Crewe service will start from Chester. A replacement bus service will run from Rhyl to Chester to connect with the train.

The 05:54 Llandudno to Llandudno Junction service will be retimed to run slightly later than usual.

The 06:13 Llandudno Junction to Llandudno service will be retimed to run slightly later than usual.

The 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen service will be diverted via an alternative route between Cardiff Central and Bridgend, not calling at Pontyclun, Llanharan or Pencoed. A connecting bus service will run from Cardiff Central to Bridgend, calling at these stations.
