    Timetable Alterations

    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. 

    Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    For details on Planned Service Alterations and changes to timetables on other train operators can be found by contacting National Rail Enquiries on 03457 484950 or by visiting www.nationalrail.co.uk.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Buses replace trains between Manchester Oxford Road and Eccles on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September

Northern

Buses will replace trains between Manchester Oxford Road and Eccles.

Please note, on Saturday 22 September, a significantly reduced Northern service running due to industrial action.

TransPennine Express:

Buses replace trains between Manchester Airport and Preston, extending journey times by approximately 60 minutes.

Services to / from Liverpool Lime Street will not run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria. Customers should travel via Manchester Piccadilly on alternative services.

Some TransPennine Express services between Middlesbrough / Scarborough / York / Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport will be amended or cancelled.

Additionally, the 06:29 Lancaster to Manchester Airport service will not run.

Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Pontypridd until 11:00, and between Radyr and Pontypridd after 11:00. These services will be timed to connect with services on to Treherbert / Aberdare / Merthyr Tydfil.

Additionally:

  • The 18:56 Barry Island to Aberdare, the 19:56 Barry Island to Merthyr Tydfil and the 21:26 Barry Island to Treherbert services will terminate at Radyr. Replacement buses will run from Radyr to Aberdare / Merthyr Tydfil / Treherbert.
  • The 21:38 Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Central service will terminate at Pontypridd. A replacement bus will run between Pontypridd and Cardiff Central.

Overnight engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Central and Pontypridd, closing the lines. As a result, the following services will be amended:

The 21:42 Bridgend to Aberdare service terminates at Cardiff Central. An alternative train service will be available between Cardiff Central and Pontypridd. A bus service will be provided from Pontypridd to Aberdare.

The 22:38 Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Central service will be replaced by a bus between Pontypridd and Cardiff Central.

The 22:45 Barry Island to Pontypridd service will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Pontypridd.

The 22:55 Cardiff Central to Radyr service will be replaced by a bus service.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service will start from Cardiff Queen Street. A bus will run from Radyr to Barry Island.

The 22:35 Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury will be diverted via an alternative route. A bus will run from Stockport to Crewe, calling at Wilmslow. There is no connection to Shrewsbury from the bus service.

Please note that industrial action is taking place across the Northern network on Saturday 29 September and a significantly reduced service will be in operation. 

TransPennine Express

Saturday and Sunday

Services to / from Liverpool Lime Street will not run between Liverpool and Manchester Victoria, no trains will call at Lea Green or Newton-le-Willows. Customers to / from Liverpool are advised to travel via Manchester Piccadilly and use other operators services between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

Trains between Manchester Airport and York / Scarborough / Middlesbrough / Newcastle will be diverted via an alternative route and not call at Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Victoria.

Saturday

Selected services between Newcastle and Manchester Airport will call additionally at Stalybridge.

Most services between Manchester Airport and Newcastle will start / terminate at Manchester Piccadilly.

The 19:46 Scarborough to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly.

The 21:19 Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly service will not run.

Sunday

The 08:24 Manchester Airport to Middlesbrough, 11:10, 12:09 & 13:10 Manchester Oxford Road to Middlesbrough services will start from Manchester Victoria.

The 07:17 York to Manchester Airport, 08:57 & 09:52 Middlesbrough to Manchester Oxford Road services will terminate at Manchester Victoria.

The 00:45 (Monday morning) Manchester Airport to York service will be diverted to start at Manchester Victoria at 01:13. A bus will operate from Manchester Airport at 0:26 to Manchester Victoria via Manchester Piccadilly to connect with the train.

The 02:59 Carmarthen to Swansea service starts later than usual, at 04:14. A replacement bus will run from Carmarthen to Swansea, departing at 02:59.

Great Western Railway:

Monday to Thursday:

The 21:15 and 22:45 London Paddington to Swansea services will terminate at Neath. Replacement buses will run between Neath and Swansea.

Tuesday to Friday:

The 03:54 Swansea to London Paddington service will start from Neath. A replacement bus will run from Swansea to Neath to connect with this train.

The 18:22 London Paddington to Hereford service will terminate at Worcester Shrub Hill for a rail connection to Hereford, calling at all stations.

Sunday:

The 08:37 and 14:37 London Paddington to Hereford services will be retimed between Ledbury and Hereford.

The 09:37 London Paddington to Great Malvern service will terminate at Worcester Shrub Hill.

The 12:37 London Paddington to Hereford will terminate at Great Malvern.

The 13:20 Great Malvern to London Paddington will start from Hereford at 12:28, calling at Ledbury, Colwall, Malvern Link, then as booked.

The following alterations will apply each night, Monday to Friday morning:

  • The 21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly service terminates at Chester. A bus will be provided from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly.
  • The 23:14 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will be diverted via Styal and Crewe and will be unable to call at intermediate stations. A bus will be provided to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester.
  • 00:32 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will be cancelled and replaced by a bus throughout.
  • 03:36 Chester to Manchester Airport service will start at the later time of 04:00. The train will divert via Crewe and Styal and terminate at Manchester Piccadilly.

On Friday evening, the 18:21 Swansea to Shrewsbury service will terminate at Knighton. A bus will be provided between Knighton and Shrewsbury.

  • The 22:14 Fishguard Harbour to Swansea service will terminate at Llanelli. A replacement bus will run from Llanelli to Swansea.
  • The 00:15 Swansea to Carmarthen service will start from Llanelli at 00:01, and will run earlier to Carmarthen. A replacement bus will run from Swansea to Carmarthen.
  • The 03:03 Carmarthen to Swansea service will be replaced by a bus (please note this will not connect with the usual Swansea to London Paddington service, the next connection is the 04:58 Swansea to London Paddington service).
  • The 04:53 Carmarthen to Llandovery will depart earlier than usual at 04:51.
  • The 05:03 Carmarthen to Manchester Piccadilly service will start earlier from Carmarthen at 04:59.
  • The 05:45 Swansea to Pembroke Dock service starts from Llanelli at 06:05. An earlier bus service will run from Swansea to Llanelli.

  • 22:52 Birmingham New Street - Holyhead will terminate at Crewe. Replacement road transport will then run to Chester where passengers can then connect with the 00:40 train service to Holyhead.
  • 23:30 Crewe - Chester service will run earlier at 23:00. Passengers unable to make this should use replacement road transport between these stations.

The following alterations will be in place between Tuesday and Friday:

  • 04:22 Chester - Birmingham New Street will start at Crewe at 04:59. Passengers should use road transport from Chester to connect with this service.
  • 04:55 Chester - Crewe will NOT run. Passengers are advised to travel on the 04:38 Llandudno Junction - Crewe service.

  • 00:32 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester will not run, a replacement bus service will be in operation
  • 03:36 Chester to Manchester Airport will start later at 04:00, be diverted via Crewe and Styal and terminate at Manchester Piccadilly

The 08:30 and 09:17 Cardiff Central to Manchester Piccadilly services will start from Hereford. Replacement buses will run between Cardiff Central and Hereford.

Monday to Thursday

The 21:54 Aberdare to Penarth is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Penarth.

The 21:57 Wrexham Central to Bidston is replaced by a bus between Wrexham General and Bidston.

The 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester is replaced by a bus between Newport and Gloucester.

The 22:26 Chester to Wolverhampton will start from Shrewsbury. A replacement bus will run between Chester and Wolverhampton calling at all stations, from Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton to set down only.

An additional bus will run from Shrewsbury to Manchester Piccadilly, departing Shrewsbury at 22:30, calling at all stations.

The 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central is diverted to run via Pontyclun and will not call at stations via Barry. A replacement bus will run between Bridged and Cardiff Central call at all station via Barry. 

The 22:56 Bidston to Wrexham General is replaced by a bus throughout.

The 23:14 Radyr to Barry island is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

The 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central is replaced by a bus throughout.

The 23:37 Shrewsbury to Chester is replaced by a bus throughout.

Tuesday to Friday, the 05:16 Barry Island to Caerphilly is replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly.

Monday to Friday

  • 21:17 Cardiff Central to Chester will terminate at Shrewsbury. customers should travel on 23:31 Shrewsbury to Crewe. A replacement bus service will be in operation for passengers travelling to Chester. 
  • 22:35 Cardiff Central to Rhymney will not run.  A replacement bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Rhymney.
  • 22:50 Penarth to Ystrad Mynach will teminate at Cardiff Central.  A replacement bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Ystrad Mynach.
  • 22:52 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead will terminate at Crewe. Customers from Crewe should travel on the earlier replacement bus service between Crewe and Chester and then connect into the additional 00:40 Chester to Holyhead service.
  • 23:30 Crewe to Chester service will run earlier at 23:00. Customers should travel on the replacement bus service.  

Tuesday to Thursday

  • 04:22 Chester to Birmingham New St starts from Crewe at 04:59. Customers should travel on the earlier replacement bus service from Chester to connect into this service.
  • 04:55 Chester to Crewe will not run, passengers should travel on 04:38 Llandudno Junction to Crewe service.
