    At times it is unavoidable that Network Rail infrastructure improvement works may affect some of our services, meaning alterations to the scheduled timetables. Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary alterations may cause.

    We advise passengers intending to travel to enquire before starting their journey for full details of altered trains, onward connections and additional road transport. Details of alterations can be obtained below or from your local staffed booking office.

    Please note: It is regretted that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be conveyed on replacement road coach services.

Northern trains between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness are diverted to run between Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

Trains between Manchester Airport / Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Eccles and Liverpool Lime Street only. Buses will run between Eccles and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Piccadilly.

Trains between Hazel Grove / Chester and Southport are diverted to run between Hazel Grove / Chester and Manchester Oxford Road, and then between Manchester Victoria and Southport.

TransPennine Express trains between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Newcastle and Manchester Victoria. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central.

The 20:12 Liverpool Lime Street to York will start from Manchester Victoria.

Tickets are valid on any replacement bus.

Thursday

The 19:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen will be diverted and not call at Pontyclun, Llanharan and Pencoed and will also terminate at Bridgend. A replacement bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Bridgend calling at Pontyclun, Llanharan and Pencoed and also between Bridgend and Carmarthen.

21:15 Carmarthen to Hereford service starts from Swansea and terminates at Newport. A bus will depart Swansea at 20:25 to connect with a train at Swansea. The train will depart at 22:15 for Newport and will connect with a bus leaving Newport at 23:45 for Hereford.

Long distance trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central will operate between Preston and Glasgow Central only. Customers for stations between Manchester and Preston should use alternative services.

Long distance trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Edinburgh will be amended to start from Manchester Victoria. These services will not call at Wigan North Western, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. The services will however, call additionally at Bolton and Chorley. Alternative services by other operators are available for customers travelling between Manchester, Wigan and Preston.

The 20:12 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough service will start from Manchester Victoria.

Early on Monday 12 December, the 00:45 Manchester Airport to York and the 04:22 Manchester Airport to Newcastle services will start from Manchester Victoria. Buses will run from Manchester Airport and Manchester Victoria to connect with these trains.

Also early on Monday 12 December, the 01:38 and 02:52 York to Manchester Airport services will terminate instead at Manchester Victoria. Buses will run from Manchester Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

Northern

Trains that usually run between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness / Southport will be diverted to start from Manchester Victoria.

Trains between Blackpool North / Southport and Hazel Grove / Chester will terminate at Manchester Victoria. Trains will be restarted from Manchester Oxford Road.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street will not run.

Trains between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime street will start from and terminate at Eccles. Buses will run between Eccles and Manchester Victoria.

TransPennine Express

Trains between Newcastle / York and Liverpool Lime Street will terminate at Manchester Victoria. Other services are available between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will start from Preston. Passengers should use alternative services between Manchester Victoria and Preston.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh will operate to a limited reduced frequency timetable and will either start from Manchester Victoria or Preston. The trains will not call at Wigan North Western, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. Passengers should use alternative services between Manchester, Wigan and Preston for intermediate stations.

On Monday, the 00:45 Manchester Airport to York and the 04:22 Manchester Airport to Newcastle services will be diverted to start from Manchester Victoria. Buses will run from Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Victoria to connect with these trains.

The 01:38 and 02:52 York to Manchester Airport services will terminate at Manchester Victoria with replacement coaches provided forward.

On Thursday and Friday, services between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle will operate between Leeds and Newcastle only.

 

The 23:20 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Manchester Victoria.

Engineering work is taking place between Manchester and Eccles / Salford Crescent / Trafford Park closing some lines.

As a result of this engineering work Manchester Oxford Road and Deansgate stations will be closed to all trains on the 27 December and from 31 December to 2 January.

 Arriva Trains Wales  trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester are replaced by buses between Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Bank Quay.

 East Midlands Trains services on Tuesday 27 December, between Norwich / Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street are replaced by buses between Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Central. Customers should use other road services between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

From Saturday 31 December, buses replace trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street. 

Northern trains between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness are diverted to run between Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

From Saturday 31 December, buses will replace trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton.

Trains between Hazel Grove / Chester and Southport are diverted to run between Hazel Grove / Chester and Manchester Oxford Road, and then between Manchester Victoria and Southport.

Trains between Manchester Airport / Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Eccles and Liverpool Lime Street only. Buses will run between Eccles and Manchester Victoria only.

On the 27 / 31 December and the 1 / 2 January, trains between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street are replaced by buses between Manchester Oxford Road and Urmston but these are extended to start form Manchester Piccadilly.

On Sunday 1 January, trains between Manchester Victoria and Clitheroe are replaced by buses between Manchester Victoria and Bolton.

 TransPennine Express - An amended timetable will be in operation.

Trains between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Newcastle and Leeds / Manchester Victoria only. Customers to / from Liverpool Lime Street should use alternative trains via Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Central. As a result of this a reduced service will run between Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester.

Trains between Scarborough and Liverpool Lime Street will only run between Scarborough and York. Customers should use other road / rail services between York and Liverpool Lime Street. Newcastle trains will be amended to operate between Leeds and Newcastle only.

From Saturday 31 December, buses replace trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street. Customers should use other road services between Manchester Piccadilly and  Warrington Central via Birchwood.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will run between Preston and Glasgow Central. Customers should use other road / rail services between Manchester Airport and Preston.

Trains between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh will run between Manchester Victoria and Edinburgh calling additionally at Bolton and Chorley.

On Tuesday 27 December, trains between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street are diverted to run between Newcastle and Manchester Airport.

Trains between Hull and Manchester Piccadilly will only run between Hull and Selby. Customers should use other road / rail services between Selby and Manchester Piccadilly.

  • The 20:17 Cardiff Central to Manchester Piccadilly terminates at Crewe. A replacement bus will call at Wilmslow, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly.
  • The 22:35 Manchester to Shrewsbury is diverted, customers for Wilmslow and Crewe should travel on the replacement bus from Stockport.
  • The 23:18 Merthyr Tydfil to Bridgend will terminate at Barry. A replacement bus service will operate between Barry and Bridgend calling at all booked stations.

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Bristol Parkway and Gloucester / Cheltenham Spa, closing some lines.

Customer Advice:

Cross Country trains will divert via an alternative route calling additionally at Gloucester, with journey times extended by one hour.

On Sunday until 16:00, trains will not call at Bristol Parkway, but will call additionally at Patchway. Buses will replace trains between Patchway and Bristol Parkway.

Great Western Railway trains between London Paddington and South Wales will be diverted between Swindon and Bristol Parkway via Bath Sp, extending journey times by 35 minutes. 

Until 19:45 London Paddington to Swansea services will depart London Paddington 33 minutes earlier than usual.

Trains between Great Malvern / Worcester Foregate Street / Worcester Shrub Hill/ Gloucester / Cheltenham Spaand Bristol Temple Meads / Westbury / Frome / Weymouth / Southampton Central / Brighton will not operate between Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads. Northern trains on Sunday between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness are diverted to run between Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

Trains between Manchester Airport / Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Eccles and Liverpool Lime Street only. Buses will run between Eccles and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Piccadilly.

Trains between Hazel Grove / Chester and Southport are diverted to run between Hazel Grove / Chester and Manchester Oxford Road, and then between Manchester Victoria and Southport.

TransPennine Express trains on Sunday between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Newcastle and Manchester Victoria. Customers should use alternative trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central.

The 20:12 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough will start from Manchester Victoria
