Community Partners

Arriva Trains Wales, operates an extensive community relations programme and supports a number of charitable and voluntary organisations, schools and community groups each year.

Arriva Trains Wales seeks to build sustainable community relationships that are relevant to the business’s activities.  ATW currently provides financial and practical support to charities and projects that help people with disabilities, the elderly, the young and the environment. 

The community relations programme includes a number of activities ranging from employee volunteering and the sponsorship of local community initiatives, to the development of long term partnerships.

Details of the projects Arriva Trains Wales supports are outlined below.


Wales Deaf Rugby Union

Wales Deaf RU LogoIn August 2005 Arriva Trains Wales joined forces with the Wales Deaf Rugby Union (WDRU) to become the official sponsor of the team - the current deaf rugby World Cup champions.

Princes Trust

Princes Trust CymruThe Prince's Trust was founded in 1976 by The Prince of Wales.  Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, His Royal Highness became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK, and began The Trust to deliver on that commitment.

Groundwork Trust Wales

Groundwork Logo Groundwork in Wales is a leading environmental regeneration charity making sustainable development a reality in towns and villages in need of investment and support.

The Groundwork Bridgend & Neath Port Talbot Trust based in Tondu has joined forces with Arriva Trains Wales with the aim of helping youngsters learn new skills and make a positive contribution within their communities. 

The project will involve landscaping work at Wildmill, Sarn, Tondu, Garth and Maesteg stations.

Dangerpoint

Dangerpoint is a visitor centre with a difference.  Located on the Granaries Business Park, Talacre in Flintshire, the Centre exists to inform and educate children and young people about dangers, and to reduce the chances of them getting into trouble in the first place.


Tiryberth Ladies Football Club

Tiryberth Ladies Football Club near Hengoed has teamed up with Arriva Trains Wales as part of a sponsorship deal to promote health and well being among women in the Rhymney Valley.  Read more about the partnership by clicking here.


Cwm Welfare Youth Football Club

Young footballers in the Ebbw Valley have secured a sponsorship deal with train operator Arriva Trains Wales.  The sponsorship is part of an initiative aimed at encouraging participation in sport and boosting safety awareness among young people.

Treharris Western Football Club

Treharris Final Team 2008Young footballers from Treharris Western Football Club have secured a sponsorship deal with train operator Arriva Trains Wales.

The Club, which plays in the Merthyr Tydfil Football League, was formed in 1995 and runs teams at under 12, 14 and 16 in addition to mini football teams at under 8, 9 and 11 age groups.

In 2008, the Club reached the final of the Ray Jones Cup.  Played at Penydarren Park, the home of Merthyr AFC, the club narrowly lost a closely contested match against Pentrebach by 2 – 0.
