GRAND DAY OUT FOR TONDU INFANTS

Twenty-five children from nursery and reception class at Tondu Infants School in Llynfi Valley enjoyed a special day out courtesy of Arriva Trains Wales and the British Transport Police.

Tondu InfantsThe children aged between three and four travelled from Bridgend to Maesteg and back.  The children have been working on a project about journeys and their relation to the valley where they live.  They have been on several visits meeting people in the community ranging from their local church to the police station.

During the journey, the children were given an opportunity to learn about railway safety and the dangers of playing on the railway with local British Transport Police Community Support Officers.

Mrs Alyson Evans, reception class teacher at Tondu Primary School, said: “The children were very excited about travelling from Bridgend to Maesteg and for many it was their first ever train journey.  The children have been learning about the different vehicles that take us on our journeys and will have learned a lot from the experience.”

Rachel Woodsford, Station Manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We were delighted to support the children with their project.  The railway plays an important role in the Llynfi Valley and it is encouraging to see the children choosing to travel by train.”
