SIGNAL FOR SUCCESS AT LEOMINSTER

Five years ago local residents in Leominster decided to pull out the stops to improve their station.  Now they have “adopted” it.

Adopters at LeominsterThe station with its listed building and distinctive cast iron stantions, is on the Marches Line between Hereford and Shrewsbury and has been well cared for by the local community.

Now local resident Andrew Carr and the friends of Leominster Station “adopted” the station as part of Arriva Trains Wales’ ‘Adopt a Station’ scheme, which encourages communities to take pride in their railway stations.

Accepting his plaque, on a snowy station last week Andrew Carr said; “We have kept the station tidy and pressed for new lighting on Platform 2 as well as providing some large planters to brighten it up.”

“We meet regularly to clean up the station and plant up the tubs.  It’s also encouraging to see the previously empty building being occupied, which helps to keep it in good condition”

Shelley Hall station manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We are very grateful of the excellent work Andrew and the local community have undertaken at the station.  Their dedication is a great example of local communities taking pride in their stations and engaging with us to keep them in the best possible condition.”
