Eleven youngsters from the special needs class at Jenner Park Primary School, Barry have enjoyed a train ride through the Vale of Glamorgan courtesy of Arriva Trains Wales.
The pupils, aged four to nine and their teachers, travelled from Barry to Bridgend as part of a school project focussing on transport. During the journey, the pupils met conductor Ed Fenton who explained his role and responsibilities in looking after the train and passengers.
Sergeant Jaci Thomas-Clelland from the British Transport Police also talked to the pupils about the dangers of playing near the railway line and how to stay safe when travelling by train.
Class tutor Sarah Kirby, said: “The children were very excited about travelling on the train and for many it was their first ever
train journey.
They have been looking at all aspects of transport such as boats, buses and trains. We’ve recently been to Roath Park lake for a boat trip and the train ride was another key part of their learning experience.”
Rachel Woodsford, Station Manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We were delighted to help the pupils with their day out. They clearly enjoyed travelling across Porthkerry Viaduct and seeing the beautiful coastline and countryside during the journey to Bridgend.”
