TRAINS, PLANES & AUTOMOBILES FOR TORFAEN SCHOOL CHILDREN

Six children and their support staff from Crownbridge School in Pontypool have enjoyed a special day out by train courtesy of Arriva Trains Wales.

Crownbridge School VisitThe children, who are studying ‘Transport’ as part of their Key Stage II project, travelled from Cwmbran to Newport and back.  Whilst at Newport railway station, the children were given a tour of the travel centre and learned how the station works.

They also met PC Monty Wright from the British Transport Police who explained the role of the railway police in keeping the station and trains safe for passengers.

Susan Eaton, class teacher at Crownbridge School, said: “The children have been working on a project about transport and were very excited about today’s visit to the station.  For many, it’s an experience they wouldn’t normally do, so it’s been an invaluable exercise in motivation and thinking about what’s going on around them.”

She continued: “As part of their project, we have also visited Cardiff International Airport, Newport Docks and are looking at the inside of cars to understand how they work.”

Stewart Keay, Station Manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We were delighted to support the children with their visit to the station.  We look forward to seeing some of the project work when it’s completed and welcoming them back for another trip to Cardiff Bay during the summer.”
