    At Arriva Trains Wales, we recognise that Christmas and the New Year is a particularly important time for all your travel needs. Whether it’s visiting family and friends, buying gifts for loved ones or going to work, we want to ensure that all our customers can plan and make those important journeys.

    To help, we have provided this quick summary of some minor changes which may affect journeys during this period. This page contains details of the train service levels and engineering work that will impact Arriva Trains Wales customers over the Christmas and New Year Holiday period.

    Valley Lines - no services will be running, except for trains between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Barry TBC 
    Mainline - A normal weekday service will run after 0600.
    Ferry connections - The 01:50 Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central service will not run. TBC 

     
    Thursday 2 January A normal weekday service will run, subject to engineering work.

     
    Friday 3 January A normal weekday service will run, subject to engineering work.

     

     

    Selected last trains on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve

    On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, for those who are rushing home, or those who want to squeeze in some last minute Christmas shopping, we are happy to announce that we will be running a full services during the early part of the evening.  Some of the later services will finishing earlier in the day than usual on Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) and New Years Eve (Tuesday 31 December).

    Engineering Works

    During the quiet period around Christmas and the New Year, whilst many people are at home enjoying the seasonal holidays, Network Rail have taken the opportunity to complete some much needed improvement work on the Arriva Trains Wales network. Please see below a full list of some of the services affected, and how we will be ensuring you can still make your important journeys.

    Monday 23 December Engineering work between Severn Tunnel Junction and Lydney

     
     The following changes apply:
    • 22:15 Maesteg to Cheltenham Spa. This train terminates at Newport and is replaced by a bus between Newport and Cheltenham Spa
     
    Monday 23 December Engineering work between Cardiff and Cheltenham Spa The following changes apply:
    • The 2319 Cardiff to Cheltenham Spa services will terminate at Newport.  
    • A rail replacement bus service will be in operation between Newport and Cheltenham Spa.  
     
    Friday 27 until Saturday 29 December Engineering work between Bridgend and Barry via Vale of Glamorgan line The following changes apply:
    • There will be no train services running between Bridgend and Barry.  
    • A hourly rail replacement bus service will be in operation between Bridgend and Barry on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 December. 
    • A 2 hourly rail replacement bus service will be in operation between Bridgend and Barry on Sunday 28 December. 
     
    Friday 27  December Engineering work at Birmingham New Street The following changes apply:
    • Services to Aberystwyth and Holyhead will depart Birmingham New Street 10 minutes earlier than the normal timetable.
     
    Sunday 29 December Engineering work between Carmarthen and Whitland The following changes apply:
    • 23:45 Swansea to Fishguard Harbour (Saturday night) will be replaced by a bus between Carmarthen and Fishguard Harbour.
    • 01:48 Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus throughout.
    • 02:50 bus from Carmarthen to Swansea will be retimed to start at the later time of 03:30.
     
    Sunday 29 December Engineering work is taking place between Radyr and Merthyr Tydfil / Aberdare / Treherbert The following changes will apply:
    • Until 12:30, buses replace trains between Radyr and Merthyr Tydfil / Aberdare / Treherbert. Buses will connect into / out of trains at Radyr.

    Lost Property Office, Newport

    The lost property office will be closed from 24 December and will re-open on 02 January. 

    If you have lost an item please contact the Lost Property Office via telephone on 08456 061 660, option 4 and leave a brief message outlining a description of your lost item along with your name and telephone number. Your query will be dealt with when the office re-opens , however please note that it will take between 5 and 10 working days for all lost property to arrive and we will only be able to call you back if your item has been found.
