• Christmas & New Year Service Summary

    At Arriva Trains Wales, we recognise that Christmas and the New Year is a particularly important time for all your travel needs. Whether it’s visiting family and friends, buying gifts for loved ones or going to work, we want to ensure that all our customers can plan and make those important journeys.

    To help, we have provided this quick summary of some minor changes which may affect journeys during this period. This page contains details of the train service levels and engineering work that will impact Arriva Trains Wales customers over the Christmas and New Year Holiday period. 

     

    Service Levels

    Wednesday 24 December Christmas Eve
    A normal Wednesday service will run for most of the day, but trains will finish earlier in the day than usual.
    Thursday 25 December Christmas Day
    No Arriva Trains Wales services will run 
    Friday 26 December Boxing Day
    No Arriva Trains Wales services will run 
    Saturday 27 December
    A normal Saturday service will run but services with start later than usual. Please check train times by visiting www.buytickets.arrivatrainswales.co.uk.
    Sunday 28 December
    A normal Sunday service will run.
    Monday 29 December
    A normal Monday service will run.
    Tuesday 30 December A normal Tuesday service will run.
    Wednesday 31 December 
     
    New Years Eve
    A normal weekday service will run for most of the day, but trains will finish earlier in the day than usual.  
    Thursday 1 January 2015 New Years Day
    Valley Lines - no services will be running, except for trains between Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Barry TBC 
    Mainline - A normal weekday service will run after 0600.
    Ferry connections - The 01:50 Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central service will not run. TBC 
    Friday 2 January 2015 A normal weekday service will run, subject to engineering work.

     

    Selected last trains on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve

    On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, for those who are rushing home, or those who want to squeeze in some last minute Christmas shopping, we are happy to announce that we will be running a full services during the early part of the evening.  Some of the later services will finishing earlier in the day than usual on Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) and New Years Eve (Tuesday 31 December).

    Engineering Works

    During the quiet period around Christmas and the New Year, whilst many people are at home enjoying the seasonal holidays, Network Rail have taken the opportunity to complete some much needed improvement work on the Arriva Trains Wales network. Please see below a full list of some of the services affected, and how we will be ensuring you can still make your important journeys.

    • Rail replacement bus services will be running between Hereford and Shrewsbury calling at Leominster, Ludlow, Craven Arms, and Church Stretton.
    • Services from South Wales to North Wales will terminate at Hereford and restart at Shrewsbury and vice versa. Services will run as in the published timetable except for some minor retimings in the evening to provide connections into other services. Please check your journey before setting out.

    Lost Property Office, Newport

    The lost property office will be closed from 24 December 2014 and will re-open on 2 January 2015. 

    If you have lost an item please contact the Lost Property Office via telephone on 08456 061 660, option 4 and leave a brief message outlining a description of your lost item along with your name and telephone number. Your query will be dealt with when the office re-opens , however please note that it will take between 5 and 10 working days for all lost property to arrive and we will only be able to call you back if your item has been found.
