TROPICAL ARTS PROJECT UNVEILED AT FAIRWATER RAILWAY STATION

A series of 10 striking coloured murals with a tropical theme have been unveiled at Fairwater railway station, Cardiff.

Fairwater mural unveilingThe murals, completed by pupils from nearby Cantonian High School, were unveiled by Headteacher Lois Spargo and station manager Jez Williams at a special platform ceremony with pupils and their parents.

The school was invited to take part in the project after similar successful art projects involving young people across the Arriva Trains Wales network.  Sponsored by ATW and Community Focused Schools, 25 pupils worked in groups to think about different ideas and decided to create abstract paintings based on animals.

Judith Joshua, head of art at the school, said: “The pupils really enjoyed the opportunity to work on something completely different on such a large scale.  It’s the first time we’ve undertaken a project of this nature and we’d be delighted to try something similar in the future at another station on the city line.”
