SOWING THE SEEDS OF SUCCESS AT CAERPHILLY

Caerphilly Railway Station is benefiting from a splash of colour thanks to the support of the Parks & Gardens department at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Station in BloomArriva Trains Wales is supporting the Council’s entry into the Wales in Bloom competition with an array of floral displays at the town’s railway station.

The Wales in Bloom competition encourages communities across Wales to be more environmentally friendly through the promotion of sustainable planting and floral displays.

Hanging baskets and floral displays at the station entrance and on the platforms are already brightening up the station for daily commuters and will also serve to welcome visitors arriving by train for the forthcoming Big Cheese Festival.

The hanging baskets at Caerphilly Station have been provided by the Ty Siriol Garden Unit based on St Martins Road, Caerphilly. The unit is run by the Community Health Team and produces bedding plants, tubs and planters for local pubs, hotels and businesses as well as local people.

Geraint Morgan, community affairs manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We are delighted to support the council’s entry into the Wales in Bloom awards.  The displays and hanging baskets provided by Ty Siriol are brightening the station for our regular customers and will also provide a cheerful welcome to those arriving for the festival.”

Steve Trew of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The spectacular flower displays in Caerphilly are a hugely popular annual attraction for visitors and residents alike.  Many visitors arrive by train and the support by Arriva Trains Wales is an important part of our National Wales in Bloom Award entry with the displays at the station providing a wonderful floral gateway to the Town.’’
