AWARD WINNING STATION UNVEILS NEW MURAL

A new mural to brighten up the lobby of Borth station has been unveileded by local schoolchildren and other youth groups in the village who have been involved in the flower picture.

New mural at BorthEach child produced their own flower to be incorporated into the main picture making it a real community effort.

The station adoption group at Borth railway station recently collected the Network Rail Environment Award for ‘Community Partnership’ in 2007 for their innovative station murals project.

Over the past 18 months the local community led by station adopters George Romary and John Toler have transformed the station with colourful artwork depicting local scenery.

A station garden has been created and the station is also monitored and tidied by a hard working team of volunteers.

In an exciting project managed  and designed by Borth artist Bodge four murals depict the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water in and around the village, featuring a fiery autumn sunset and the beach on a sunny spring day, have been unveiled to much acclaim.

A group of senior citizens have also carried out painstaking work on two lovely Railway Murals-so all ages have been involved!

Station adopter, George Romary, says. “The Latest addition to our station artwork is very bright and colourful and is designed to greet passengers entering from the street with a positive statement of respect and community ownership of the station. All the children involved in the project should be proud of their work.”
