BANGOR BROWNIES SUBMIT WINNING 'TRAIN SAFE' POSTERS

Three winning entries have been submitted to British Transport Police from the Brownies in the Bangor area, demonstrating the importance of taking care when travelling by rail.

Ceri Jones PosterBritish Transport Police Community Partnership Co-ordinator, Bill Rogerson made a visit to see the Bangor Brownies with the aim to educate them about railway safety.

On request from the Brownies, Bill took them on a fun-packed train journey from Bangor to Holyhead, courtesy of Arriva Trains Wales, to teach them how to stay safe when travelling on the railways.

Based in Rhyl, North Wales, Bill’s main role is to promote good relations in the community by providing a programme of education that will develop respect for the law and encouraging young people in the community to not commit offences such as trespass, vandalism and anti-social behaviour on the railway network.

Charlotte Cannon PosterThe Brownies had such a great time, they all designed posters for Bill, from which three winners were selected and given a prize.

The first prize was given to Ceri Jones, aged seven; second prize went to Charlotte Cannon aged nine and the third prize winner was Freya Morris aged eight. All three were given family train tickets, where up to six people could travel together on a journey across Arriva Trains Wales rail network.

Tawny Owl, Angela Baird said:  “The girls had a thoroughly enjoyable and informative trip to Holyhead and back, and picked up on all the key messages given by Bill along the way.”

Freya Morris PosterGerald Jones, station manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide the prizes for the winning posters.

These train rides are an important means of raising railway safety awareness amongst children, and the environment they are held in is a very effective means of getting the message across.  We hope the winners and their families have a great time wherever they decide to visit on our network.”

All the girls were really happy and couldn’t wait to travel on the train again with their families!
